The Story of the Preston Palanio Memorial Fund

Preston fell in love with the game when he first stepped on the ice at age five. Preston was not the biggest player on the ice but what he lacked in size he made up in heart, determination, and skill. He was a hockey player with the Coeur D’Alene Hockey Academy Spring Leagues, On Top Hockey, and Coeur D’Alene Thunder. Most recently he was selected for the Junior Chiefs 2022-23 14UB Rep team just prior to his tragic passing on May 25, 2022.

Preston’s grandfather, Larry Palanio, played professional hockey in Canada and the U.S. and was a member of the 1970 Spokane Jets and the 1976 Spokane Flyers hockey clubs, both of which won the prestigious Allan Cup.  Preston’s father, Jason Palanio also played hockey as a boy and continues to skate in recreational leagues in Coeur D’Alene. His mom, Tricia, and his sister, Teegan, have been his biggest cheerleaders and continue to watch and support his teammates at their games.

Preston’s family established this scholarship in his honor to support youth in the community who need help to stay on the ice, and in turn, keeping Preston’s legacy alive.
